Editorial policy

How the writing on this site relates to the fact that we also sell jewellery.

The obvious conflict

We sell jewellery and we publish guides about jewellery. That is a conflict of interest and pretending otherwise would be worse than naming it. Our approach is to write guides that remain useful to someone who buys nothing from us, and to avoid steering advice toward our own stock.

What that means in practice

  • Care advice covers all silver, not only ours.
  • We explain how to check a recycled silver claim, including how to check ours.
  • We name the limits of our own claims — see materials.
  • Guides do not end with a product recommendation.

Sourcing

Technical claims come from bench practice, from named suppliers, or from published standards. Where a supplier statement could not be independently verified, it is attributed. See our sources and references policy.

Corrections

Errors of fact are corrected with a dated note at the foot of the page. We do not silently amend. Materials claims in particular are corrected promptly, because people make purchasing decisions on them.

Right of reply

Suppliers or other makers who believe we have described something wrongly should write to [email protected]. We will correct genuine errors and publish a substantive response where the disagreement is one of interpretation.
